November 2, My parents came to visit and meet their new grandson, Ian. We meet them at Icheon International Airport and literally told them to run, we had a bus to catch in less than 10 minutes. The good news is that we made it on the bus with a few minutes to spare. Yeah! 56000 Won saved (about $50) and what a welcome to Korea!
This past week went by fast and it was great to have my parents in town. They spoiled Ian with love, hugs, and cuddle time. Mom also started knitting Ian his first hat for Winter and has plans to knit him a Christmas stocking in red and white.
During the week, we did have a chance to do a few touristy things and a 2 month appointment for Ian. Monday was Ian's appt and he now weighs 9.4 pounds and is 21 inches long. He also got 3 immunizations and handled it like a champ. My dad was great and sat in the waiting room guarding the Bugaboo stroller and mom joined me with Ian for his appt and met Dr. Chung. Overall Ian is doing well and right on track. Right before mom and dad came to visit, Ian started sleeping through the night and smiling. I was so glad to know that my parents would not be woken up in the middle of the night from a crying baby but rather got to enjoy his first smiles.
The rest of the week consisted of touristy trips. Tuesday we did the Seoul City Bus Tour and got off on 4 stops, Seoul Tower, Insadong, Changdeok Palace and Dongdaemun Market. Wednesday we returned to Dongdaemun with my friends Yvonne and Blanca for a bit of shopping. Mom found a couple of items including a black sweater for 18000 Won. Imagine floors of stalls about 8 x 8 of clothes of all types. Mom, Dad, and I were just overwhelmed with all the choices. Dad was a great sport shopping with 4 women, at least he had Ian to add a little testosterone to the mix. On our way home we traveled the local subway and wandered through Itaewon. Thursday, mom and dad headed up north to the DMZ for a USO tour, unfortunately it was closed for the tour but they got to hike the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel. Friday, Juan finally got a day off and joined us for a trip to the War Memorial of Korea, which is one of our favorite spots to go because of the open courtyard and many military displays.
On Saturday, my parents headed back to Seattle. It was hard to say goodbye but we are hoping to reunite with them this coming June/July in Hawaii for a little R & R. We had a great visit and time always seems to fly by when we are having fun.

The War Memorial of Korea, every Friday at 2pm from June-November, they offera parade of culture exhibiting many of the eras of Korean History with music and military
demonstrations.
