Rachel and her mom had their first stop in Pittsburgh, PA arriving at 10pm. The next day they left for a long drive to Chicago, IL finally arriving around 2pm after driving through PA, Ohio, and into Illinois and experiencing numerous toll booth fees. Japan still takes the cake on the toll fees.
Tuesday, July 8th started early with a spontaneous wake-up of 4am by Rachel and her mom. The original plan was to leave at 6 am but since we were up we decided we should leave and avoid traffic. There was still bumper to bumper traffic near Ohare Airport at 530am. We thought LA traffic was bad. The day was long and concluded in Sioux Falls, SD around 430pm with drive through the rest of Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and into SD. We drove around town trying to find 91 gas for the BMW which took 3 gas stations to finally find the grade needed. We also had to stop at Sonic for slushes, Rachel had to have a Lemon-Berry fresh fruit slush which reminded her of her time at Kansas State University.
Wednesday, July 9th's road trip started out at 7:30am. Mom and Rachel traveled through SD with stops at Wall Drug, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and a drive through Black Hills Forest into Wyoming. We headed up in Gillette, Wyoming for the night after a long exhausting day.
Check out more of our adventure tomorrow.
