We finally arrived!!! The trip across the Pacific Ocean began with a 0330 wake-up early Wednesday morning for a 0600 flight to Los Angeles. Our LAX lay over was for three hours followed by a 12 hour flight into Incheon International Airport. It was a very long flight and in many respects mentally exhausting. We arrived tired, but at least we had someone from Juan's new command waiting for us (even after an hour delay) to take us to our new home for the next two years - Yongsan Garrison Post. It wasn't until 2130 (9:30 pm) before we arrived, checked into our hotel, and were able to finally get some sleep.
Friday, 18 July was the start of our Check-In Processing. It really wasn't too bad, but there is a sheet in which Juan needs to follow to ensure that we meet all the required faces and places. We were fortunate enough that Juan's boss lent us his "hoopdie" for the day. A "hoopdie" is a car that gets passed on from one person to the next as people transfer to and from the post. Eventually we'll need to buy our own "hoopdie" - we've already seen a few cars that interest us as well as our budget.
During the course of our first day here, Rachel was able to get completely checked-into the Main Post Hospital, whiched included the OB/GYN Clinic. We were thankful that Rachel will be delivering the baby on post vice out in town. In addition, we are pleased that Rachel's next appointment will be this coming Monday in the afternoon. This will allow Juan to join Rachel at the appointment.
Prior to reporting to Yongsan, we had been told that the wait for On-Post Housing would take about a month due to the high influx of transfers coming into Yongsan. However, we were very fortunate to a place offered to us the same day we were checking-in. We were offered two places and we accepted the one that was more favorable to a desired location on-post. What's more is that we were authorized a 2-Bedroom, but instead we were given a 3-Bedroom. What a blessing and answer to our prayers. The location is great because it's next to one of the main gates that takes you into the town in a matter of minutes and a short walk to one of the subway stations.
A lot was accomplished this past Friday and we expect a lot more to get accomplished this coming Monday. One of those will be signing the paperwork for our new home.
