Mom and Rachel spent July 11 visiting Yellowstone National Park our nation's first National Park. We had been to the park over 16 years ago when Rachel was in high school. It was great to see the changes and the animals out in force. We were greeted within a half hour by 4 male bisons in the middle of the road. Mom enjoyed snapping pictures and Rachel focused on maneuvering the car out of the way of the bison as soon as possible. They are rather imposing creatures in person.
We had a perfect day in Yellowstone weather wise, it started out a bit cool but warmed up nicely by midday. Rachel and mom enjoyed visiting the mud pots and pools, Old Faithful, and hiking up the Mammouth Hot Springs trails. We had a chance to see Old Faithful go off twice, once while in the audience of tourists and then while on a hike after lunch. Does anyone ever bother to snap a photo of all the tourists anxiously waiting for Old Faithful to blow? It was funny to watch them all lift the cameras in sync once the geyser gave a hint of an appearance.
We only wish that Juan could have been with us; he has never had a chance to experience this incredible park and see the beauty that is encompassed in it's 2.2 million acres. One day Rachel and Juan will make it back with little Ian in tow.
We left the park headed for Gardiner, MT around 630pm after getting Rachel's National Park passport book stamped, She gathered 6 throughout the day.
